| Students of Cathedral and John Connon School put up their annual art exhibition, ‘Out of the Box – IV, at Tao Art Gallery. |

The students of the Cathedral and John Connon Senior School held an art exhibition from November 6 to 9, 2009, at the Tao Art Gallery at Worli.
The annual exhibition titled ‘Out of the Box - 4’ is in its fourth year. Each year’s earnings so far have been donated to various charitable causes. Continuing this trend, the entire profit from this year’s exhibition will be donated to various organisations and charities working for the welfare of street children and senior citizens.
The exhibition was by Ms. Meera Isaacs, Principal of Cathedral School. The Sarjan Plaza Gallery is a part of Tao Art Gallery. The artists are art students of standard eight to twelve of the Cathedral School at Fort with ages ranging between thirteen and seventeen years.
The exhibition showcased many styles of paintings that one would not normally see in children of this age group.
This is possible because the children are allowed to let their imagination run wild and paint whatever they want – what they paint is not restricted by the art syllabi of these various standards. This is also the reason behind the name of the exhibition – ‘Out of the box- 4 ’. Such an exhibition is very refreshing to see in an education system tightly bound by various syllabi and portions.
While some students have a particular source of inspiration, others have simply painted what they have always wanted to. Many have experimented with many painting mediums and styles before deciding on one that suited them best. The students used varied themes thus making the exhibition very appealing. All this was possible, thanks to the enthusiastic guidance of Mr. Nanda Das, art teacher of the school. Mr. Das himself is an established contemporary painter, having held many exhibitions, including a recent one at the Jehangir Art Gallery.
