| Junior School: Headmistress's Message |
|
 |
|
A thought that crosses the mind
of every person who either visits or works in Junior School is, "Children
make you want to start life over".
Our heritage building has a happy ambience of love and
care. The sparkling eyes of curious and eager children
engrossed in the classroom, or pursuing an extra curricular
activity of their choice after school hours, make the place
hum with purpose. Their quick feet on the staircase, their
gurgles of laughter, their happy chatter, their quest to
give each day their very best, provide a heady motivation
for the talented and committed teachers who continue to
make Junior School a place that children love.
The Junior School years of Classes 2, 3 and 4 are like a kaleidoscope of myriad experiences, where textbooks are complemented by projects, excursions, talks, movies, exhibitions, plays and much more. We aim to not only impart the necessary academic skills, but to help our children grow up to be happy enthusiastic and confident boys and girls, with lasting bonds of friendship. For it is so true that, "What we remember from our childhood we remember forever".

| Pioneering Change |

What can one say about a syllabus that introduces children to the works of Roald Dahl, T.S. Elliot, Oscar Wilde, P.G. Wodehouse, Anne Frank, Ray Bradbury, Arthur Canon Doyle, Tennyson and Tagore in a variety of tasks that hones their skills in a range of genres through junior primary and middle school grades?.
By grade 4 our children are aware of alliteration, simile, personification and onomatopoeia, by grade 7 children are doing euphemisms, stereotypes, media bias and subliminal messages. Add to this book study where children read a total of 5 books in depth with the teacher and class from grade 2 to 7 and you have a dynamic reader who can appreciate and critique all that is read as literature.
Vocabulary that our children now use is truly astonishing in its volume and complexity. Grammar is made simple and painless in a daily five minute exercise that has had unprecedented success in our primary children who know all parts of speech by the time they move to Middle School.
We are now planning to revolutionise spelling. Is it any wonder we are top of the heap in English according to the Asset Tests that examined English in 2000 top schools in the country? We boast of scores that are as high as 176% of the national average? And all this achievement in a mere span of 3 years.

| The Hindi Revolution |
|
The development of the Hindi curriculum is another breathtaking feat. One sees the magic of what the efforts of a large number of teachers, parents and children acting in unison. Hindi will have five texts - a book, a song cd, a poetry cd, advertisement and conversation classroom resources. All of these will be woven together in exciting lessons that will bring the real world where Hindi is used profusely, right into the classroom. Oral work will form a big part of the lessons.
The content is divided up into all the main rasas of literature so that the patriotic, nature, the satirical, the humorous and the reflective ideas are used in a balance. A wonderful spin off is the appreciation of exhilarating Indian Music and culture that will be actively encouraged through the study of the subject. A sense of national and cultural pride is to be assured, in addition to high competency in the language, by the introduction of this dynamic and bold curriculum.
