“A Workshop by Ms. Vidushi Chaudhry”
The Cathedral Workshop team rolled out their second workshop of the season on the 7th of November. Vidushi Chaudhry held forth articulately and passionately on the challenges of those with learning disabilities and why their inclusion was critical to the health of our educational philosophy of not leaving any child behind. Vidushi’s maiden workshop proved to be a runaway success.
Mrs. Ganguly welcomed the group of 40 participants on a Saturday morning. She spoke of Cathedral’s mission of celebrating their 150th year with a celebration of workshops in the spirit of sharing experiences with schools in Mumbai and by learning through the exchange of ideas.
Vidushi began with the nervous worries of a novice and in a short while was waxing eloquent on the subject with a passion that belied her age and experience. The workshop delineated the roles of the parent, child, class teacher, special educator and administrators in accepting the child with special needs. The workshop raised issues like destigmatization, advocacy, communication amongst stakeholders, the psychology of denial and involving the child in decisions that affect him.
Well organized, lucid, case-specific, informative, lively and well-researched were some of the bouquets she received from a happy audience that gave her a standing ovation.
Mrs. Pandit closed the session by lauding Vidushi for her passion for her subject, and her dedication to children, their parents and the LD community. She reiterated the message of embracing imperfection as a necessary step to self realization and the need for emotional intelligence in education. She said Vidushi showed by example how a teacher and educator must evolve to a place of empathy and reflection and that Cathedral was proud of her.
Vidushi thanked her team and Mrs. Isaacs for her vision and her pervading presence in the spirit that the workshops represented. |
